Hi Sports Moms,

My name is Emily - a sports mom through and through!

I wanted to start this blog for a number of reasons:

1️⃣ As a way to normalize all the thoughts and feelings we go through as moms involved in competitive sports,

2️⃣ Share some behind the scenes, and some DIY from my business Made By A Sports Mom,

3️⃣ And maybe share some stories about my crew as well!

To start I thought I would share a little bit about myself and my family.

My Crew ❤️
My Crew ❤️

I grew up playing sports my whole life - competitive volleyball was my thing! I spent years and years on the court and I absolutely loved every minute.  I also played softball from the time I was 6 until University - never competitively - but another love of mine.

I’m a very creative and crafty person and decided to combine that with my love for sports and start a little business called Made By A Sports Mom back in November of 2023. I make sports accessories for kids and parents - from cricut to laser engraving - the possibilities of what I will make are endless!

When I had my children, I hoped that sports would be a big part of their lives, as both their dad and I were athletes growing up and this was one thing we both really wanted for them. And let me tell you, the apples didn’t fall far from the tree!  I believe that sports provide so many physical, mental, emotional and social benefits for children so I am very happy that my children choose to play sports.

I have 4 absolutely amazing children, let me tell you a little about them since they will be at the centre of most of the stories I share.

My oldest son, Max (soon to be 12), is the only one that really isn’t into sports - and that is ok! He is so creative and has recently discovered a love for theatre - and is pretty darn good at it! Last month he did a performance on stage of the Little Mermaid, and I grinned ear to ear watching him perform… It was the same feeling I get when I watch my other kiddos play the sports they love.  Let these kids find their passion and support them along the way. ❤️ Now, Max does play baseball in the summer… “but I’ll only do it because I know the exercise is good for my body” - maybe not the same passion as theatre, but he knows the benefits of keeping his body moving.

Next we have my boy Carter (soon to be 9) - he is as sweet as they come. He is the one that introduced me to Hockey.🫠 In the winter of 2020, we built our first ice rink in our yard and that's where it all began. He decided he was going to be a hockey player - a player in the NHL at that! The following year, when he was 5, we signed him up for hockey and he hasn’t slowed down since. He is now prepping for his first AAA tryout and my goodness the stress I feel with that… 😳  But I’ll touch on that in a different blog post.  Carter also plays competitive baseball in the summer - this is his first year in competitive so I’m sure I’ll have some great stories to share.

My third boy, Brooks aka Brooksy (7), is wild, loving, funny and FULL of confidence.  An athlete through and through - this guy already excels at any sport he tries. He started hockey at the age of 4 - hopped on the ice and was flying around.  That same year, when he was 4, he decided he was going to be a goalie.  Although we made him continue to be a skater, we did allow him to play in goal whenever he wanted.  The following year when he was only 5 years old, he made the U8 competitive hockey team as a goalie, and has been playing at a high level since.  He’s impressive in net and I can’t wait to see what the future holds for him. This guy is also a stud out on the soccer field - Messi… watch out… this guy is coming for you!

My last baby… I finally got my little girl. Charlotte (5) is a spicy one - always keeping me on my toes (I guess she has to be fierce with 3 older brothers!) From the time she could walk, she had a hockey stick in her hands. She asked Santa when she was 2 for a pink hockey stick and pink hockey gloves. We thought for sure she was destined for the PWHL, but this year she declared she was done with hockey. 😔 So with that, we hung up her uniform and are waiting for her to decide if she ever wants to go back out.  She’s living her best Rink Rat life right now and I’m sure she will find something she really loves soon - whether it be gymnastics, hockey or dance - this girl will do great things. She’s also ready to take on the soccer field this summer!

We also have 2 dogs - Phoebe and Frank, along with 2 cats - Reggie and Archie!

And there you have it – that's my little, sports obsessed, family!

I hope that you will follow me along this journey, navigating the crazy world of competitive sports, owning a small sports business and raising this wild and amazing crew. ❤️

Xo
